Rustic 19th century dairy bowl

Rustic early 19th-century English country dairy or dough bowl, of unusually broad circular form and displaying an exceptional depth of colour and patina. The bowl has been fashioned from a substantial piece of timber, probably sycamore or elm, with a thick gently rounded rim and deeply dished interior. The surface retains extensive evidence of hand working and generations of domestic use, giving the piece the wonderfully tactile, almost sculptural quality associated with early English treen.
