Early Victorian Porcelain Teacup circa 1840
Early Victorian Chinoiserie Porcelain Teacup, c.1840. A charming English porcelain teacup dating to circa 1840, decorated in a colourful Chinoiserie-inspired floral pattern. The gently flared body features sprays of peonies, foliage and exotic flowers in pink, orange, turquoise and green, together with a decorative basket of flowers. The design continues to the interior and along the elegant scrolling handle. The decoration reflects the enduring early-19th-century English taste for Chinese export porcelain and famille rose designs, adapted by British ceramic manufacturers for the domestic market. The moulded scroll handle and finely potted body are characteristic of the early Victorian period.
