Pair of Georgian Style Lead Garden Urns circa 1880

Pair of Georgian Revival Cast Lead Garden Urns circa 1880–1900. A highly decorative pair lead garden urns, richly modelled in the Georgian taste. Each has a deep classical vase-shaped body with a bold rope-twist rim, raised figural and foliate decoration, a band of geometric ornament and a spreading circular socle foot. The most striking feature is the elaborate pair of dragon/serpent-form handles, their curling bodies forming open scrolls to either side and terminating in sculptural heads above the rim. The relief decoration and fantastical handles are typical of the Victorian taste for grotesque ornament. Can be purchased individually at £1495 each (AA339)
