Pair of Victorian Brass Candlesticks circa 1880
Pair of Victorian Brass Open Barley-Twist Candlesticks, c.1880. An attractive pair of late 19th-century brass candlesticks, each raised on a broad stepped circular base with a striking open barley-twist / double-helix stem. The twisting stems give the pair a particularly sculptural quality, terminating in simple elongated candle sockets with flared rims. This open spiral form became popular during the Victorian period and works particularly well as a decorative pair on a mantelpiece, console or dining table.
