Victorian Copper Planter circa 1890
Late Victorian Pierced Copper Jardinière / Planter, c.1890–1900. A particularly decorative late 19th-century copper jardinière, of cylindrical form with a warm, naturally aged surface. The body is pierced in repeating rows of quatrefoil and crescent-shaped motifs, giving the piece a subtle Moorish or Aesthetic Movement influence. The jardinière stands on four shaped bracket feet and retains its original swing carrying handle, attached at either side with turned copper finials. The pierced outer body surrounds an old metal liner, allowing it to be used as a cachepot for plants while protecting the decorative copperwork.
