19th century cash register made by the National Cash Register Company (NCR) in Dayton, Ohio, USA circa 1890. Founded in 1884 by John H Patterson, NCR completely dominated the global market for point-of-sale machines for decades. Circa 1915, NCR stopped producing these heavy cast brass & bronze casings because raw brass & metal allows were redirected toward ammunition and military production for WWI. The design is called the Renaissance pattern. While made in the USA, this machine was built specifically for the British & Irish markets, using the old Sterling system.
