Early 20th century French gilt & etched glass mirror

Early 20th century French gilt and etched-glass wall mirror. A highly decorative early 20th-century wall mirror in the Rococo Revival taste, with strong Venetian influence. The substantial shaped frame is richly ornamented with scrolling acanthus leaves, flowerheads and moulded architectural detailing, rising to an elaborate pierced crest centred by a cartouche. The large central mirror plate is bordered by narrow bevelled mirrored slips, finely etched with floral and foliate motifs and incorporating attractive blue-toned sections. The warm, time-worn gilding gives the piece a wonderfully theatrical appearance and highlights the depth of the carved and moulded decoration.
